BREAST
LIFT
/ MASTOPEXY
Look as great as
you
always
wanted!

Also known as
mastopexy, a breast lift raises and firms the breasts by
removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to
reshape and support the new breast contour.
A woman’s breasts often change over time, losing their youthful
shape and firmness. These changes and loss of skin elasticity
can result from:
- Pregnancy
- Breastfeeding
- Weight fluctuations
- Aging
- Gravity
- Heredity
A breast lift is a good option for
you if:
- You are physically healthy and maintain a stable weight
- You do not smoke
- You have realistic expectations
- You are bothered by the feeling that your breasts sag, have
lost shape
and volume.
- Your breasts have a flatter, elongated shape or are pendulous
- When unsupported, your nipples fall below the breast crease
- Your nipples and areolas point downward
- You have stretched skin and enlarged areolas
- One breast is lower than the other
The first consultation
In Sensual Body Dream during the first consultation the surgeon
analyzes the conditions of the patient which is the best way to
correct the defect.
The surgeon will recommend the best solution with respect to the
intervention to be made and the best form to perform it. He will
also answer all the questions that you have and tell the
reasonable expectations that you can have regarding the final
result.
What is
the Difference Between Mastopexy (Breast Lift)
and Reduction Mammoplasty (Breast Reduction)?
While
a breast reduction procedure seeks to reduce the size and weight
of an overly large breast, a mastopexy (breast lift) seeks to
improve the shape and appearance of the breast usually, without
changing the actual volume of the breast in a significant way. A
small amount of breast tissue and skin may need to be removed to
shape certain breasts, but for the most part, the overall volume
will stay the same.
Mastopexy plus Breast Implants
Placement of a breast implant may improve the volume and
appearance of breasts that also required a breast lift. A breast
lift performed with implants is a more complicated procedure
than a breast lift alone. This is because the breast implant
seeks to increase and expand the volume and stretch of the
breast tissue and skin, while the breast lift seeks to shape and
tighten the overlying skin. Surgery must be carefully planned
and executed when such opposing forces are present to ensure the
maximum chance of a safe result. Our surgeons will go over your
individual situation carefully in each case.
Procedure
An incision is made around the nipple and areola. This extends
down to the inframammary fold, which is the area where the lower
portion of the breast joins the chest wall. This allows the
excess breast tissue to be brought together and hidden in a
vertical scar. Occasionally, a scar along this inframammary fold
may be required as well. This may result in an incision which
looks like an upside-down T underneath a small scar around the
nipple and areolar complex.
As needed, the breast tissue underneath is sculpted by the
surgeon. Small amounts of skin, fat or breast tissue may be
removed to improve the overall shape and appearance. For
example, volume may be reduced on the outside or armpit area and
moved centrally and upward to provide for better shape and
cleavage.
Occasionally, patients with less saggy breasts may have
procedures performed with much smaller incisions. These
incisions may be as little as a simple semicircle or circle
around the nipple area.
If an implant is required during the procedure, it will be
placed at the time of the operation.
Where are the incisions?
This is probably the most important topic that gets discussed in
relation to Breast lift and Breast Reduction. Plastic surgery
does leave scars and it is important that you see plenty of
postoperative photos to understand the spectrum of scarring that
can occur with breast surgery.
Your surgeon will make every effort to make your scars as
inconspicuous as possible. Still, it's important to remember
that mastopexy scars are extensive and permanent. They often
remain lumpy and red for months, then gradually become less
obvious, sometimes eventually fading to thin white lines.
Fortunately, the scars can usually be placed so that you can
wear even low-cut tops.
Anesthesia
Local anaesthesia and complementary sedation, or general
anesthesia, depending on the extent of the procedure and on what
you and your surgeon prefer.
Duration of the operation
The procedure usually takes between one-and-a-half and four
hours, depending upon the size of the breast and the complexity
of the procedure to be performed. This will vary significantly
from person to person.
How long is the patient hospitalized?
For a breast lift one day of hospitalization is usually needed
if there are no complications.
Usually suction drains (plastic tubes) are left in place after
surgery.
Recovery
After Procedures, you'll wear an elastic bandage or a surgical
bra over gauze dressings. Your breasts will be bruised, swollen,
and uncomfortable for a day or two, but the pain shouldn't be
severe. Any discomfort you do feel can be relieved with
medications prescribed by your surgeon.
Within a few days, the bandages or surgical bra will be replaced
by a soft support bra. You'll need to wear this bra around the
clock for three to four weeks, over a layer of gauze. The
stitches will be removed after a week or two.
If your breast skin is very dry following procedure, you can
apply a moisturizer several times a day. Be careful not to tug
at your skin in the process, and keep the moisturizer away from
the suture areas.
You can expect some loss of feeling in your nipples and breast
skin, caused by the swelling after procedure. This numbness
usually fades as the swelling subsides over the next six weeks
or so. In some patients, however, it may last a year or more,
and occasionally it may be permanent.
What are my limitations in activity post-operatively?
You should plan to avoid activities which require much raising
of the arms above the level of the head for 10 days after
surgery. With great care, you can drive about 7 days after
surgery. Patients can usually return to work in a few days
unless their occupation requires particularly strenuous
movements and lifting. In such cases, 2-3 weeks should be
allowed.
Will
the breasts start to sag again?
Gravity continues to have its effect, and there is a tendency
for the skin of the breast to stretch over a long period of
time. Women vary a great deal in this respect. In general, the
smaller the breasts, the less tendency for sagging to recur. If
the breasts sag further, excision of the skin on an outpatient
basis can be used to correct the problem. If we try to lift
heavy breasts without making them smaller at the same time,
sagging will return soon. One key to a satisfying result is
realistic expectations - a wide-based large breast will not look
like a smaller, but firm, narrow-based breast.
Post Op Follow up
In Sensual Body Dream the strictest norms of quality are
followed, that go beyond the intervention. For that reason
detailed postoperative controls are made, so the patient feels
safe and accompanied. During your stay you will have several
consultations, to check that the process follows the natural
course and to ensure you that can leave Bolivia without any
problem once in your country.
